Lay My Body Right Here
Year
2019
In September of 2019, a story broke on Maine local news about a body that was found buried in Vernelle Jackson’s yard in the town of Norway. Jackson explained that the body was that of her dear friend Mae Shelton. The state police began an investigation to determine Shelton’s cause of death and the culpability of Jackson in the situation. Meanwhile the community began to discuss what it means to bury the body of a loved one in your yard. What follows is a story about friendship and one woman’s dedication to keeping a promise. This story is dedicated to my mother.
